Marlene Enright, Vocals accompanied by Hugh Dillon Guitar
Marlene studied Music in University College Cork, graduating with a BMUS degree in 2007. She is an accomplished vocalist and pianist and favours popular genres of music, including folk, rock, pop and jazz. While in university she teamed up with fellow music undergraduate Pat Carey to form the folk duo Berries Blue.
Berries Blue supported well known Irish bands such as Mick Flannery, Declan O Rourke, Damien Dempsey, Luka Bloom, Cathy Davey and Liam O Maonlaoi. In 2011, the band The Hard Ground, was formed by Enright and Carey along with Dave Ryan, Dave Duffy and Hugh Dillon. The Hard Ground have received national radio play on Radio 1 and 2FM with original material written by Enright and Carey and have made countless appearances live on air on regional and national radio. They have toured Ireland and the UK extensively and are set to release the first installment of a three part album entitled Triptych early this summer.
Though busy with The Hard Ground throughout the year, Marlene also plays as a solo pianist and sings regularly with Jack O’Rourke in a group named Posters in Your Room, a group that has been known to cover 90’s songs and country material alike! For The Ballydehob Jazz Festival Marlene will be singing Jazz standards from some of her favourite vocalists such as Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan as well as some new material from artists like Esperanza Spalding. She will be accompanied on electric guitar by Hugh Dillon.
Hugh Dillon – Electric Guitar
Hugh is a professional guitarist who is fully accomplished in a wide range of styles. Hugh studied at CSN College of Further Education in Cork City where he firmly established himself as one of Cork’s most sought-after musicians and collaborators. Hugh played for a number of years in award-winning artist Mick Flannery’s band; their successes include platinum record sales as well as a recent chart-topping album “Red to Blue”. Hugh has performed in countless high-profile headline concerts in venues such as Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, the Cork Opera House and Cork’s “Live at the Marquee” as well as festivals including Electric Picnic and the UK’s Latitude Festival. His live credits include television appearances on the Late Late Show, Other Voices and The View, and radio performances on RTE Radio 1 and 2fm. He is currently working with two of Ireland’s biggest emerging artists, The Hard Ground and The Niall McCabe Band, as well as continuing his work as a full time multi-genre session musician.
